A WOMAN'S DIARY

Miri has the highest API record (164 as at 11am) in the country as per reported by the Department of Environmental (DOE) yesterday. As usual, press releases are made, printed and published, not forgetting the public are reminded to take precautionary measures and creating awareness to public on the API readings. Few days later, the public will be feed with news that shows series of follow up/measures has been taken by relevant authorities, disclosing the offenders, type of penalty imposed, at time, finger pointing at neighbor country are also mentioned as part of the haze disaster and if the fires still persist, the public are advised to leave it to mother nature as there’s nothing much can be done by the relevant authorities.

Yada yada yada bla bla bla ba ba ba black sheep…

To me, it has become a trend.

Why?
Because the most blardy obvious reason is that it was a ‘man-made haze’ caused by irresponsible people instead of natural disaster.

So, what is it for you?
I am frustrated with the system, the execution of it and also the offender. It seems that whatever explanations given are like excuses to me. How aware are the public on open fire burning do’s and don’ts? To what level of open fire burning has to be reported once spotted? I also think that the penalty to the offender should be heavier than what it is now. Death sentence, perhaps?

Why death sentence?
Because of their action, it has caused a nation disaster. OK, maybe that’s too much and yes, I’m just being unrealistic.

Anyhoo,

For the last few days, be it in the house or in the office, worst still is when you are at outdoor areas, the places are filled with smoky smell and the weather is not only hot but the heat hurts the skin too (that’s how I felt). Every morning when I go to work, the visibility is like entering a highway to the mystic Loch Ness; thick morning fog.

To those who are ‘weak’, such conditions can deteriorate their health and can even affect the ‘strong’ one health too. I begin to ponder whether by putting on the surgical mask would really helps? Why not the industrial anti dust mask? Isn’t it providing better filtrations as compare to the published surgical mask?

Stay indoor as per se, switch on the house air-condition as it helps to filter the dirty air but how many are there have the luxury to get their house air-conditioned?
