A day stay at Cat City
While waiting for my room mate to get ready for breakfast, I walked slowly toward the window and opened my room’s curtain. It was a bright clear sky, as clear and focus as myself.
I stayed at Somerset Gateway serviced apartment and it was my first time staying here. I kind of like it very much in terms of its location. Eating places are nearby, walking distance to the waterfront and should you decided to stay longer, you can just walk to MAS office to re-schedule your trip as the MAS office is located just next to it.
This time round, I was fortunate enough to attend my best friend Chinese New Year open house. She had arranged her nephew to fetch me from the hotel after I give in arguing with her that I can find my own way to her place.
To my surprise, there were about more than 300 guests from different races and it’s just show how harmonious we are. Based on the festive decorations, it also shows that the host showcases 2 cultures – Kenyah and Chinese as my best friend is married to a Chinese.
It was a joyful and merry evening. I met long lost classmates, schoolmates, ex-colleague and most of all my long lost relatives. I make new friends too and one of my new friend happens to be my mother ex-teacher whom now is full-time sape’ player.
His talent as a sape player has made him travel almost around the world under the wing of the Ministry of Tourism, Sarawak Tourism Board and few private corporate sectors. He performed for private function too. And very good news to me is, he’s going to perform in the upcoming Rainforest World Music Festival. Mathew will be performing and conducting workshop with his team members knows as ‘Lan E Tuyang’, so watch out for his performance.
For the record, Mathew has produced his own album in sape instrumental version and some Kenyah old folks songs. If you happen to be one of his fan or traditional music and song’s fan, do go and grab his album at any record shops.
I wish I can stay longer but the time was too short and I had to rush back to my room as I have an early morning flight to catch.
Cat City, I’ll be back again. Soon. 🙂
