Asia Music Festival 2013 : What Is It?
The inaugural Asia Music Festival is organised by Sarawak Tourism Board (STB) and held on the 4th & 5th October held at EastWood Valley Golf & Country Club, Miri, Sarawak. Asia Music Festival 2013 (AMF) concept features electrifying eclectic mix of live music from the Asian region supplemented with food and cultural performance throughout the 2 day festival. This was the first time where Sarawak Tourism Board collaborating with Miri City Council to organise fringe events during the festival that involves big bikers, food mart, handycraft, photography and tattoo exhibition.
The main goal is to develop the brand of Asia Music Festival to be an iconic musical festival in the Asia Pacific region within 5 years. It is a critical component of STB destination marketing strategy of positioning Sarawak as prefered destination for the key focus markets through world class musical events. It is also to contribute positively and to the diverse ethnic Mirian communities in social and economic terms.
October has been the low season and to address this, STB came up with the idea of this festival to attract visitors to the state. With its objective of attracting the Asian expatriate community working in neighboring Brunei, the local Bruneians themselves, neighbours from Sabah and Peninsular Malaysia as well as those in Indonesia, Singapore and the region, the atmosphere is planned to be that or a carnival with lots of food, fun and games.
For its inaugural event, STB selected 13 band and performers to perform over the 2 days festival. Tickets were priced at RM30 (adult) and RM15 (children & students from age 3-18years old). Children below 3 is free of charge.
STB targetted an audience of 4000 people for the 2 days event and during the first day of the festival, based on the ticket sales, there were 1,808 tickets sold. Not bad for an inaugural event, don’t you think?
