Borneo Jazz Festival 2013 : Opening Dinner & Media Cocktail Reception
As it was on a working day, I have to rush from office to ParkCity Everly Hotel for the official launching ceremony of Borneo Jazz Festival. With Miri standard of ‘Fast and Furious’ style of driving, I made it in time to attend the media briefing session; managed to get the Sarawak Bloggers team registered and collected our goodies bag on behalf of the team.
After the media briefing, the Sarawak Bloggers team and myself were chilling out by the poolside while enjoying the sunset prior to the opening dinner.
It was a simple launching ceremony attended by invited government officials, sponsors, media group (local and international) and STB officials. Like last year, live sape music was played along with ‘Liling Dance’ lead by Orang Ulu maidens as the closing ceremony.
Media Cocktail Reception
Last year, the press conference with the honorable Minister of Tourism Sarawak was held at ParkCity Everly Hotel. This year, it was held at Meritz Hotel. While taking our seats for the press conference, I bumped into Michael Lu (the person behind @SarawakTravel) and quickly introduced him to the Sarawak Bloggers team.
Prior to the arrival of honorable Minister, the owner of Meritz Hotel, Dato’ Lau Sie Wai took the opportunity by giving us the media group a personal tour of the hotel. I have to say that not only he is good in what he does but also a very ambitious businessman and funny too. He made us laugh with his jokes throughout his presentation. It is indeed a warm hospitality from the owner himself. Kudos to him!
After the press conference session ends, the media group went to Sky Garden on the 17th Floor of the hotel for a cocktail reception. Here, one can view Miri city and one thing never turned me down is the sunset view. It’s just amazing.
I wish I could stay long and enjoyed the view till late night but the media group has to rush back to ParkCity Everly Hotel for the concert. We hopped on the bus shuttle provided by STB and were pretty excited to what the night has to offer.
So, stay tuned for my next post on the concerts. 😉
