El Nino Is Coming
It was announced in the news nationwide last night and we better gear up with whatever possibilities out of it.
And why do I say so? Simply because I’m residing at the high risk of open burning area along the Kuala Baram highway. With the El Nino phenomenon coming soon, it will definitely be a long dry season and that can lead to open fire burning even with a stick of cigarette butt.
With the news broadcast nationwide, I hope the relevant authority especially BOMBA Miri will take the necessary pre-caution measures to overcome the issue professionally. Not forgetting us (the public) to play our role too by reporting any open fire burning around your area or not to simply initiating any open fire burning.
In relation to this, it remind me of one recent occasion where my colleague took the initiative to call BOMBA Miri to report a bush fire burning in the campus. It was quite ‘big’ as it was spreading pretty fast toward the main building with the help of Mother Nature – wind.
Colleague : Hello, Jabatan Bomba?
Bomba : Ya, ada apa saya boleh bantu?
Colleague : Saya nak buat laporan. Berlaku kebakaran hutan di dalam kawasan kampus kita. Boleh hantar bantuan untuk memadamkan kebakaran?
Bomba : Oohh..sik ada apa ya. Pandei nya padam kedirik kelak.
Colleague : What?!!
*she hanged up*
I just hope this will not happen again with the upcoming El Nino. The bush fire burning in the campus on that day somehow goes off by itself which again by the help of Mother Nature. The wind blew it to other direction.
For the record, my colleague’s conversation above is after 3 attempts to call the Jabatan Bomba Miri. It was the joke of the day for us as well.
