Getting Wiser Each Year
My first birthday ever celebrated with family and friends were during my 18th birthday. My family never celebrated my birthday each year like other family does and I don’t find it as a big deal or an issue. What matter the most to me was to cherish and appreciate the birthday itself. Whether it’s a small gathering, just a chat over a cup of coffee, spending the time alone or whatever it takes that makes you happy on that day. I always remind myself to cherish life to the fullest, give more and expect less in return.
On every 3rd of June, I might end up celebrating my birthday alone, in a joint birthday celebration or in a surprise birthday celebration. This year, I find my birthday was different than previous years.
A day prior to the actual birthday date, Viv and the girlfriends threw me a luncheon gathering session at Citrus Restaurant. Leslie (our ex-colleague) whom now pursuing his studies at Kota Kinabalu joined the gathering session as he was on semester break. I enjoyed the rants, laughter, the food, the drink and most of all having their companion on my special day. I felt life is complete. 🙂
On the actual birthday itself, apart from receiving birthday wishes from colleagues, I received a surprise birthday gifts from the girlfriends. I received a tube floral printed dress (which can be converted into short or long skirt) from Feli. I received a Santa Barbara perfume (in a blue stiletto heel bottle) and sexy black body fitted top from Along. My sister gave me 3 pairs of SoxWorld socks (I think she’s indirectly asking me to hit the gym on daily basis; p ).
Ever since I’ve became a student, I always wanted to get myself a leather type of ‘schoolbag’ that look elegant and sophisticated (which is also suitable for office) for me to keep my notes. I whined about it and telling the girlfriends that I will get one soon after payday. Little did I knew, Vie bought my dream bag as a birthday gift. It was not the leather type of bag that I wanted but she gave me a better one; a Gucci corporate bag. 😉
Viv gave me a wedges shoe for my birthday present. She knew that I liked high heels and wedges shoe is one of my favorite shoe types but in Miri I always have problem finding at least 4inches of wedges shoe heel. Little did I knew, she bought me my preferred wedges shoe height from The Summit (yes peeps, we do have this outlet in Miri). 😉
Honestly, it was beyond my expectation to receive such birthday gifts and for that I’m feeling grateful. Regardless on what sort of expenses amount that my girlfriends had spent on me, I treasured their friendship the most. Not forgetting to friends who text-ed me on my birthday, the thought count the most. Last but not least, to my parent, thank you for having me in your life.
In life, we always expected to have more, of which explain why on what we have now are never to be seen as enough. That includes me. As I grow up, I realized that it was not about having enough but it’s about being wiser as you grow up. As you grow wiser, you’ll get to think and see things differently hence it mould of what you are today.
