916 ELECTRO RUN : MY FIRST ULTIMATE RUN
If you’re in Pinterest, pin this! 😉
Yesterday was Malaysia Day. A public holiday commemorating the formation of Malaya, Sabah and Sarawak. Managed to submit an assignment on time just before the public holiday so I thought to reward myself, I took part in a charity run, the first run ever organized by my university : 916 Electro Run.
As I’m writing this blog post, I am also working on another assignment due next week. Bummer!
916 ELECTRO RUN
Last year, I participated in a community project organized by my university for the Persatuan Orang Kurang Upaya Fizikal Miri (POKUFM). I blog about it here. Back then, POKUFM was known as Pertubuhan Orang Cacat Sarawak, Zon Miri. Apparently, the organization has been renamed. This run is the continuation effort of the university to POKUFM.
This year, the university decided to organize a charity run for POKUFM in response to their needs of at least 18 new wheelchairs for their members. As this was the university first ever run event that was also open to the public, the university collaborate with the expert: Miri Marathon Association.
If you’re a seasonal runner, Miri Marathon Association was the organizer of Miri Marathon 2017 held on last March. Kudos to Miri Marathon Association for their contribution in the university inaugural charity run.
MY FIRST MAJOR RUN
Back then during my high school time, the kind of run I ever participated was ‘Merentas Desa’ and 5000KM run during school sport event (by force that is!). Occasionally will run in relay sport meet (4X100m & 4X400m) too (just to meet a team requirement).
Heyyy hold on! OMG I did run. Didn’t knew I was that active. Not bad. Not that I have plenty of medals, the school athlete but yes there are about 5 to 6 medals dusted in the cabinet.
..to be honest, I wasn’t ready to run. At all. Like I said earlier, I was there just to reward myself for able to submit my assignment on time. I thought the electro run would be also good for my blog content too. So I went there early, snap shot here and there then uploaded it into my Insta story. While there was warming up session conducted, I couldn’t care less to join the crowd.
And even during the flag off, instead of running, I walked and almost all of the runners had run passing me.
Then, it hit me. It hit me hard! It was like an epiphany moment. It was a charity run and here I am walking my ass gracefully. Shame on me for letting down the POKUFM members. Shame!
So, I ran.
Ran just like how Forrest Gump did. Literally.
Except there’s no knee crutches fall apart throughout the run just like what happened in the movie. ;p
I finished the run under 60 minutes. I think somewhere 50 minutes like that. I was amazed with myself. Without any warm up, run like Forrest Gump and finished the 5KM run less than an hour.
I ever told my peer that running is not my kinda thing. Damn proud of it! Now, I think I need to sulk that word in! Period. After this run, I’m considering to look into this sort of run seriously in the near future.
Thank you to the epiphany moment. I’m sure you have your own moment of epiphany too. Care to share it with me?
