Everything started when Terry approached me on his interest in studying the Penans. The Penan is one of the minority ethnic races in Sarawak. During the old days, they are known as the nomadic tribe among the Orang Ulu community. Due to that, they are very timid people and rarely meeting other ethnic races. In other word, they are in their own world. The Penan happens to be the ‘apple’ of the state government too.
Nowadays, most of them had settled down in a village, sent their children to schools and some had become successful businessman, some even hold high ranking position in the government sector.
I shared with Terry on my own findings with the Penans and for all I know, I was in the research team. We gathered information, compiled and submit it to Pustaka Negeri Sarawak for grant approval.
And yesterday, I got the good news that the grant has been approved and it was officially hand over by Pustaka Miri representative.
A meeting to execute the necessary tasks for each team member will be held tomorrow morning and I am already so excited about it. This would be like going down the memory lane for me.
This also going to be my first research project since the beads project hasn’t got the grant approval yet.
